What supplies are needed for a class of students to do this project?
Amsa: Everything you need is in the kit. You need to soak the reeds before weaving so I used the ball tub to put water in. With younger students, it would be helpful to prepare the vertical reeds so they would just be weaving the longer reeds around. -

How much reed does this come with?
Amsa: The Classroom Kit comes with 3 lbs of #3 Round Reed. -

Can you buy a smaller kit? I want to buy the classroom kit for 30 students and I have 31 students plus me.

What is the size of the beads? I would like to order additional colors.
Amsa: It is a 6x9mm Pony Bead. -

Do the reeds have to be soaked or boiled before making the basket?
Amsa: Soaked!! We soaked a minimum of 20 minutes before we started, we also had to continue dipping the reeds in water constantly while making the baskets! I was working with 9 kids under the age of 10 years old. Depending on how slow you work will depend on the amount you have to soak while weaving the basket. -

Amsa: The beads are plastic. -

Is this good for second graders? About how long would it take to make?
Amsa: We had kids from Kindergarten up making these. As you might imagine, the older kids had better independent success than the younger. But, many of the 2nd grade crowd were successful with a little help. I think they could do it in a span ranging from 1-2 hours. It would depend on whether or not you had extra hands to help you soak the reeds, to give small group instruction etc. My kids had 50 minutes per session and they had two adults for a group of a dozen or less. I hope this is a helpful gauge. Kids love, love, love this project.
